Getting off the beaten track is very rewarding because
it gives a unique insight into the traditional life
that continues in the villages where life is linked
to the passing seasons and not the clock.
Many
villages are well known for particular handicrafts
and these include Lefkara that is world famous for its
embroidered lace work, Lania, which is nick-named ‘the
village of the artists’ and the mountain village
of Phini whose name is synonymous with red clay pottery.
Many of the villages have beautiful churches adorned
with icons and a rich folklore like the monastery at
Troodhitissa which has a holy leather belt that is renowned
for helping women to have a child.
Cyprus really
is a very special Island...
